Indiscipline can cost games as 11 players on the field are usually better than a reduced number. Players have to control and direct their agression to best effect.
Calderwood said: "I have been there and done it myself, but when you are a manager and you are seeing it from the other side, you think 'why did he go into that tackle'? Why is he getting involved, especially when we are winning? But there was definitely an edge to the game and there wasn't going to be any presents. You can look at Darren Mackie who got booked and the next minute he was kicking the ball away. But it is new for a lot of them and they have to learn, as difficult as it is because the atmosphere was brilliant. It couldn't have been easy to referee, but luckily enough the players sorted it out in the second half because it was getting a little bit silly from both sides." Calderwood was pleased to be able to give injury-plagued defender Karim Touzani the chance to came on and play an important role in Aberdeen's win. The Dutchman, who signed a new deal with the club, despite starting just a handful of games in his first season at the club, replaced Michael Hart in the 51st minute. Touzani brought some composure to Aberdeen's defence and Calderwood is glad the Dutchman's first season with the Dons ended on a high note. He said: "Touzani came on and did a great job for us, which is wonderful for him because he has had a hard year and he will go away with a big lift having played like that, which is difficult when you are a substitute." | |||
