The shcok troops of Scottish football are looking to continue doing things their own way.

In the recent documentary which followed them to the SPL, Gretna manager Rowan Alexander stating clearly he would be in charge for 2007-08. It was therefore a bit of a surprise to hear that Davie Irons would be leading the challenge in the top flight. Alexander had to step back in the lead in to the title win due to health problems with his number two Irons taking over. Chief executive Graeme Muir confirmed talks were being to negotiate a compensation package with Alexander that would see him step aside. But he insisted no final decision has been made. Muir said: "
Gretna are still in discussions at this point as to their set-up regarding the whole club. That is still ongoing and there is no change at all. There are discussions with Rowan. These are ongoing."

Muir was speaking as Gretna held their second open day at Motherwell's Fir Park, where they will play their home games in next season's Clydesdale Bank Premier League. And the Gretna chief insisted a decent crowd will make the 75-mile trip from the border village to Lanarkshire. He said: "
You will be surprised with Gretna, supporters-wise. You can drive here in exactly an hour and people spend longer going home from work in Glasgow in the evenings, so time-wise it is not too bad. We are a small village team playing in the SPL and will maybe become everyone's favourite second team. To that end, we are preparing packages designed to encourage fans in the Motherwell area to attend Gretna's home games and for businesses in Motherwell and Gretna to become involved."
