There s still a degree of uncertainty over who will be on and off the field at Tynecastle when the season starts.
Hearts coach Stevie Frail hopes to have his position at the club clarified at a meeting with majority shareholder Vladimir Romanov next week. Frail is currently only named asthe interim assistant coach to interim head coach Anatoly Korobochka. Te pair stepped into the beach left when Valdas Ivanauskas left near the end of last season. After a 3-1 friendly defeat by Barcelona at Murrayfield, Frail said: "I spoke to Mr Romanov last night and I hope to get things sorted before the start of the season. I've said all along that I would work away until Mr Romanov decided it was time to sort out the backroom staff. I want it sorted but if it doesn't happen next week and it's the following week then fine. I think it will just be the contract first and foremost but I will wait to speak to him. The job that I'm doing now is the job that I want to do. I get to train them - and I get to stand at the touchline beside Frank Rijkaard! I love it and I hope that it continues. I hope it is with Anatoly because he has been great to work with and I'm sure he will be speaking with Mr Romanov to get his future (sorted out). If it is with Anatoly then I'm sure we can get on and try to get some success back. But I can't demand who will be the head coach, I just need to wait and see."
Hearts highly valued goalkeeper Craig Gordon, reportedly subject of a £9million bid by English Premier League new boys Sunderland, denied it was his last game for the Gorgie side. The Scotland keeper, indeed, was doubtful over the accuracy of the figure reported to be the Black Cats' bid. He said: "The bid has not been accepted so I didn't have a decision to make. The club hasn't told me what kind of figure they want for me but that's up to them. I'm not entirely sure that (£9million) was correct. I would be surprised if that wasn't accepted. But I've got to think I will be still be at Hearts after the transfer window closes. I'm the captain of this club and with that comes responsibilities. I can't take my eye off the ball, I need to concentrate fully on the job." | Editor Ger Harley (ger@scottishfitba net)
