SPL 2 could be dead in the water if a deal can be agreed to show SLF games on the box.
MacKinnon said: "I was asked several weeks ago to form a working party along with Michael Mulraney from Alloa in order to help find a TV company willing to broadcast our matches. Fortunately, we've managed to set up discussions between the league and an interested party for midweek. It would be wrong to name them at this stage but they seem quite keen to become involved." The lack of a TV contract last year was one of the reasons which led to the formation of the SPL2 group. STV pulled the plug on their coverage after the 2005-06 season. MacKinnon admits that if an agreement is reached this week it may be enough to keep the rebels within the fold. He went on: "That doesn't concern me too much. The reason I became involved with SPL2 in the first place was because I could see no alternative for our club. At that stage the SFL had no TV deal, sponsorship or commercial impetus. Now we seem to be making progress. There has been a shake-up at Hampden, with new chief executive David Longmuir due to start early next season, and, in any case, SPL2 wasn't an ideal solution either." | ||||
