Hearts goalkeeper Steve Banks is keen on staying in Edinburgh, and he could get his wish as speculation mounts on the future of Craig Gordon. The well-travelled Banks, whose time in football has encompassed spells at West Ham, Gillingham, Blackpool, Stoke and MK Dons, is reluctant to move on again as his weighs up his non-playing options. Banks is eager to remain at Hearts once his playing days are over and, with a year left on his existing deal, he is eager to have his future sorted as soon as possible. He said: "I have only a year left. I have moved my family up here because they have been down south for two years. It was a big step to move them up here and hopefully I see a big future up here. I would like to stay longer and progress in coaching."

Banks' current role at the club is as understudy to Gordon but with the highly-rated Scotland international purportedly being courted south of the border, it looks likely Banks could soon be seeing more playing time. Banks went on: "I am not surprised about the speculation surrounding Craig. He has had a couple of great seasons. Whether he will be here or not I really don't know. I came to the club two seasons ago under no illusions why I was here. Craig was the number one and they needed someone with experience to go in and do a job when needed. If Craig is here another year then it might be another year like that for me. Craig and I are room-mates and are quite close so I will miss more than a team-mate if he goes. He is very level-headed and might just wait for the right opportunity to come."
