It is a long way for just one game but Rangers must think it is worth the effort for the global branding impact. However, it will not just be a case of turning up.

Rangers have travelled to Los Angeles for just one game and could see one of their ex-players while over there. Midfielder Claudio Reyna now plays New York Red Bulls and has warned his old team they will face a fired-up LA Galaxy side tonight. Reyna believes the Americans will be determined to prove they can compete with a major European side. He said: "
Any of the players over here who haven't played in Europe and get the chance to play a big European club like Rangers will be really up for it. They are a good team. The stadium is first class and the pitch is big, it's a beautiful set-up. And I'm 99% sure it will be sunny, so that could be to Rangers' disadvantage since they are used to grey clouds and rain. They will be a good opponent, they have Landon Donovan who is their best player in the team in an attacking role. Overall they're a pretty youthful side and they have in Frank Yallop a good young manager. And of course surrounding it all they have the arrival of David Beckham in two months so combining all that it's an exciting time for the club."

Reyna, who spent two and a half seasons at Ibrox, has noticed an increasing interest in the MLS from players in Europe. He returned home at the start of the year after almost 12 years in Germany, Scotland and latterly in England with Sunderland and Manchester City. Reyna went on: "
In the last few years there has been a growing interest in the league. I can think of about 20 players who have asked me about coming here at some point in their career. Financially it's better in Europe but the lifestyle over here I think is the best in the world. The relaxed lifestyle is something the players don't have in Europe, especially in the hotbed of Glasgow. It's something I think a lot of players will look to try later in their careers. But the league is doing a good job of getting younger players in."
