Motherwell are building both on and off the field for the new season. It is a bit like rubbing salt into the wound for Owen Coyle that they take one of his players after not offering him the Fir Park job.

A new man in charge and a new player arriving - some good news at last for Motherwell fans. Assistant boss Scott Leitch managed to agree a deal with midfielder Simon Mensing to move from St Johnstone before Mark McGhee was appointed as Manager yesterday. The media will get their chance to speak to Mensing when the new management pairing will unveil the new signing at Fir Park today (Tuesday). The combative midfielder had stalled on Saints offer of a new contract to stay at McDiarmid Park and had attracted interest from St Mirren and Swindon.

Saints boss Owen Coyle, who had been linked to the Fir Park job, said: "
I'm obviously disappointed that Simon won't be with us but the bottom line is that he wants to play in the SPL and I can understand that. He leaves with our best wishes and I thank him for what he has contributed to the team in the past couple of seasons." Mensing started off his Scottish career with Clyde back in 2002 when he moved from Wimbledon after an initial loan spell. He then moved to Perth in 2004 and stayed for three years before agreeing to move again. He impressed during the St Johntone's 2-1 win over Motherwell in the Tennent's Scottish Cup quarter-final at Fir Park in February.
