| Ex-Rangers forward Peter Lovenkrands has pointed to poor signings made by Paul Le Guen as part of the problem which led to a disappointing season for the Ibrox club. Lovenkrands moved to Schalkel last summer as a free agent but was an interested spectator as he watched the SPL race, Le Guen leave last January and Walter Smith replace him in charge. Lovenkrands is sure Smith made the right changes after coming back to Ibrox midway through last season. Lovenkrands said: "They had a bit of a mixed season with Paul Le Guen leaving and Walter Smith coming back. I just think Le Guen went about it the wrong way with the players he brought in who didn't really connect with the ones who were already at Rangers. Things seem to have gone so much better since Walter and Ally McCoist came in and they've done a tremendous job from what I've seen. I think if Walter had been there since the start it would have been different in the league last year."
Lovenkrands still clings to the hope of playing at Ibrox again, in next season's UEFA Champions League, should Rangers come through the qualifying stage. He said: "It's great we're in the Champions League and I really hope Rangers can qualify too. It would be really important for the club and for the fans and it would be a wee bonus for me if I could get Rangers in the group stage. It would be nice to come back and play at Ibrox again. I still have contact with a lot of the boys and some of my friends are Rangers fans as well. I still think of myself as a Rangers fan and I think I always will be. As they say, once a bluenose, always a bluenose." | Editor Ger Harley (ger@scottishfitba net)
