Cowdenbeath made their final preparations for the new season in Edinburgh on Saturday but it was the local Dons, not Barcelona, who provided the opposition for the Blue Brazil.

Two goals from Stephen McConalogue and one from Czech Ondrej Matusik, signed recently from Juniors Cupar Hearts, gave Cowdenbeath a 3-0 win at Peffermill in their final pre-season friendly match before their Division 2 opener at Berwick this Saturday.

There were sighs of disappointment after Cowden failed to take something from their match against Bristol Rovers last Thursday, especially as local hero of the last couple of seasons, Liam Buchanan, scored twice for his new club Partick Thistle in their friendly win at Cliftonhill the same night. McConalogue's brace went some way to relieving anxiety amongst the Blue Brazilians that Cowden may have got the short end of the deal when the ex-Jag arrived at Central Park as Buchanan's replacement.

Cowden's recent signing from Edinburgh University, Andy Howat, also showed up well against his former team mates.

Both sides used the 12 noon kick off on Saturday to give most of the main players for their squads for the upcoming 2007/ 8 season a run out and Cowden looked improved from their tussle with the League One English side a couple of days earlier.

The pre-season schedule for Cowdenbeath saw them defeat Civil Service Strollers (0-4),Workington (0-2) and Dunston Federation (1-2) away and lose 1-2 to Bristol Rovers at Central Park through a last minute goal. The Fifers also drew 2-2 in a bounce match with Stirling Albion on the football pitches of Beath High School, Cowden also did most of their pre-season training at 'Beath playing fields and were the first SFL team back on the training pitch after 2006/7.
