Perhaps Scottish clubs should forget trying to win UEFA competitions and we should concentrate on taking over the governing body. We have made a decent start!

Scotland may not be at the World Cup but they have extended their range of influence in European football thanks to the appointment of more members to UEFA committees. UEFA have named the members of the disciplinary bodies, committees, expert panels, instructors and officials for the coming four years or more, and there are numerous Scottish football experts included.

Hugh Dallas, who retired from refereeing last year, has been invited to join the UEFA Referee Committee, Rangers director John McClelland has been appointed to the Club Competitions Committee, and Sheila Begbie, the SFA's Head of Girls'/Women's Football, has been brought onto the UEFA Women's Football Committee. Professor Stewart Hillis remains Vice Chairman of the Medical Committee and SFA President John McBeth continues on the Stadium and Security Committee.

David Taylor, SFA Chief Executive, who continues as a member of the Control and Disciplinary Body, said: "
For Scotland to have some influence on European football affairs, it is essential that we are represented where it matters. I am delighted that the talents of more Scots have been recognised by UEFA and I am sure they will make a powerful and positive contribution."
